A little history about this event. Smoken for Jesus was first held in June of 2023. It was the brainstorm of the HCC’s Men’s Ministry to have a BBQ competition in HCC’s parking lot. It quickly became a joint endeavor between the Men’s Ministry and HCC’s Outreach team. First thing we did was to move it out of the church parking lot and decided to make it a community event, giving all churches in the community an opportunity to be involved. We had 7 churches join us the first year. We fed approximately 800 people and 6 individuals prayed for salvation that day. There are activities for children, such as face painting, games and science activities. There is live music throughout the event. Trophies are awarded, and all the smoked meat is fed to the community at no charge. T-shirts can be purchased on-line. All volunteers receive a t-shirt at no charge. There will be a friendly competition between our community heroes (Fire and Police). The first year was such a success we decided to make it an annual event. One response from an individual stated that “It was wonderful to see what a community of Christ looked like”. Another stated “Thank you for creating a day where my kids could eat , play games and do it all without me having to say no to them!”.
